The Fag Debate

Not really a debate, but something I would like to get opinions of from my peeps.

WARNING: MIGHT BE OFFENSIVE - Sensitive ninny's need not read.

Curious people - Yesterday I was told that I cannot use the term fag unless I had already taken in the practice of blowing dudes.
I used the term "Fag-Hag"  which I have used many times over the course of my life and not once has anyone decided to tell me that was a term that I am not allowed to use because of my own personal lifestyle preference to not place a penis in me.

So, I ask you all - Is using the term fag in any way shape or form the same as me not being able to say nigger because I lack the proper skin tone?

  3. I feel like that is an intelligent, well thought out statement.
    And, I agree with it.

  7. Other than the phrase "fag-hag" towards my friends who have lots of gay friends, I have never really used the term very often.
However, in my college days was when the whole "oh, that's so gay" thing was really really big and that basically had the same connotations.

Also, thanks for clearing that up for me bitch (or can I not say that as well since I do not have a vagina?)
    :)

  8. Oh, I'm never going to change. I'll take all the ridicule and abuse people want to dish out. I've been offensive since I learned how fun it was.

You can teach an old dog new tricks, but you can't stop him from making offensive jokes.

Also, I have not seen those commercials. I guess they don't play them during NFL games.
Tom Brady: "Remember boys and girls, while my team is out there playing professional Smear the Queer - Fag is a hateful word and should never be said aloud!"

  10. Yep - context is key - as is surrounding audience.

  12. Yeah, it doesn't seem right or fair, but the group that is getting insulted--or thinks it is getting insulted--gets to make the rules and in this politically correct world, that's just the way it is. Last month an Asian gal at the poker table was saying that her mom refers to herself as "Oriental" and does not object to others calling her that....but it's all in the context. You can usually tell when they are hateful or hurtful or when they are just using a word they are comfortable with. I'm wondering what the political correct term for "fag-hag" is that would convey the same mental image?

  15. I believe that is the case Grouchie.. although I totally get where your coming from. I have often times called a friend a fag for doing something stupid.. Have you seen the commercials? Fag is a hateful word! Anyway, being old, I get where your coming from, but it probably is wrong.. not that us old people are going to change.. we will just have to die out..

  16. Very good question, young Grrouchie. I have encountered this same situation in the past. I once used fag or faggot much akin to how i use bitch or biatch. "Hey fag, blah blah blah". or "Take it faggot" <-- i used to say that to friends as they'd scoop a pot. I am sooo not homophobic and didn't think much of it until someone told me it was insulting to gay people. "No, it isn't", I thought because it was just me effing around and there was no maliciousness behind it. But then I realized that I was using the term fag as an insult. To be clear....it could seem that I was suggesting being gay was an insult...not my intention, but when you say "Hey fag" to someone it could certainly seem that way.

Get it, faggot? <--- just for old time's sake. I do not use the word anymore.
