A funny thing happened on the way to O'Sheas

So, pretty much the story of my life is that with every peak there is an equal and annoying valley.
Today showed just that when it really started to look to be a good day.

My day started with more NFL Draft and an Oil Change.
My neighbor works for a company who goes around and does oil changes.  Has the Van with all the equipment, the oil, the filters - the whole 9 yards.
So, I figure what the hell, I'll let him do my oil since he offered.
A couple hours later I decide to take a trip down to O'Sheas so that I can pick up a commemorative chip since the place is going to die a horrible death in the next two days and on the way my Check Oil light comes on.
A few minutes later the car dies and I pull off to the side of the road.

Oil Filter came off without me noticing (Call me a fucking Idiot, whatever - I didn't notice) and all of you with any auto experience can guess what came next.

I call for a tow and I call the guy to come down and fill me back up with oil and put on a new filter (you know, but this time make sure the fucking thing is on correctly).
He shows up, however the engine doesn't turn over - ahhhh fuck.

So, now my car is sitting at a dealership waiting for it to open on Monday so that they can look at it and tell me the engine is fucked and give me an estimate on what it's going to take to fix it.  This way I can go to the neighbor with the bill and get him to cover my expenses.
Probably involving a rental car as well since I have no other way to get to work.

Lesson learned.

  1. If you want a ride in the morning call me. I'm up at 5 am. Shit happens, don't feel this is some kind of cosmic equalization. Shit just happens. By the way I have a gift for you!!!!

  2. This is why rule #1 of dashboard idiot lights is this: When the "check oil" light comes on, you pull over and stop the engine NOW, wherever you are, and get a tow.

I've only had it happen once. An engine seal failed without warning and started spewing oil all over the road. I had no idea until I suddenly got the light. Fortunately, I heeded Rule #1 and didn't suffer any permanent damage.

    1. I was unaware that this rule existed.
However - next time I am fully prepared!

Thank you for passing knowledge onto me!

    2. I disagree - I think the world is out to get me and happiness is only achieved in small doses.

I had a good week and thus I needed to be fucked with so that I realize that anything good can be taken away at a moments notice. :)

  4. Talk about a bad day!

Hey -- if you do get to O'Sheas please pick me up a regular dollar chip and a commemorative chip. When Josie gets in town I will make it worth your while ...

    1. Uh - yeah.
Figuring I won't have a car until sometime Monday - and O'Sheas shuts down Monday at Noon - It's fairly safe to say that I won't be able to help you out.
Hopefully you win Grumps contest and can get the special chip though.

Myself - I'm busy being bitch slapped by the god of "hahahahaha"

    2. Since I'm a good friend and I need your help I'll try to get down there. You showed me your chip a month ago, thought you already had one?

  5. Sorry to hear that. Your car could have still died and you could have been auditioned by someone who didn't like you - try to focus on the good...

    1. ~Coach, do you give positive thinking seminars?

I'll be ringing you up when you move back to Vegas.
"Yo, my dog died - tell me to focus on the fact that he'll at least make a good meal or two" heh :)

I agree with what you are saying though.
Shit happens to everyone, it's how we deal with that shit that defines us as a person!

  6. I am old schooled, every day before i turn on my vehicle i always check the oil even though i drive a 2011 Ford F-150 Platinum truck, tires i check once a week every Sunday with a tire gauge, visual tire check daily. I was a diesel mechanic for 10 years with HSI Services and Key Energy Services. Hate to say it grrouchie but your engine is probably locked up, hope the gentlemen that changed your oil has insurance so you can get a new engine.

    1. If he does not have the insurance to cover it - or the money for that matter - then I will be contacting his company.
Already have the companies information (name and number is on the Van) and have no doubt that they will own up to the mistake that their employee caused.

    2. Hope that he didn't do the job "on the side". If so, you may have to take him to Judge Judy. Good luck, and sorry to hear about the problem.

    3. I'm fairly certain that even if he was "doing the job on the side" the company will make good on the issues he caused.
However, for him, the issue might be more dire as the company is not going to be happy with him using their Van, their Oil and their Filters and misrepresenting the company by doing shoddy work under the table.

  7. I went to the game last week and saw three guys in the parking lot shooting ropes into a bucket. As I walked by, they asked if I wanted to join them. For a brief moment, I considered joining them until I remembered that I have an appointment with a double-sided dildo later.

  10. This is why I think EVERY car manufactured should be required to have an OIL PRESSURE GAGUE. An oil leak - or anything causing the oil to run out of an engine - can destroy an engine faster than just about anything else.

Happened to me once ... a long time ago, and I learned a painful lesson after a several-thousand-dollar engine rebuild.

Hope it all works out for you ... good luck!

    1. Yeah man - I'm learning mine.
Pay more attention to what is going on.

It's a lesson you only ever have to learn once.
Engines are bloody expensive - and that labor is a f'n killer
